The King of Fighters XII - Gametrailers Review (Arcade, PS3, Xbox360)

KOF12 is actually a REBIRTH graphically, not 100% still without other features like a brand new storyline, a new saga; and I don't really treat this is as a full priced game. However, SNK Playmore already has this new graphical foundation, so I strongly believe the next Kof (Kof13 maybe) will be a perfect new fighter.

Resident Evil 4 now available for iPhone

Photobucket

Resident Evil 4 is available right now for purchase in the App Store for $7.99 and suspiciously squashed down to 37.3 MB.

The iPhone version of Resident Evil 4 is based off another mobile version originally created for a Japanese mobile phone company. The game features the usual over-the-shoulder third-person shooter gameplay that you have come to expect from the series, and with that comes the usual “stop and pop” shooting mechanic. Resident Evil 4 also features some decent looking 3D graphics, location-based damage, shake to reload, and a mercenary mode, which was first introduced on the mobile version of the game.

The biggest drawback of this port is exactly that, it’s a port. It wasn’t created specifically for the iPhone, so it contains a trimmed down story with no voice overs. This truly is a mobile version of a great classic, so you must take it for what it is.

Star Wars: Republic Squadron

This game is not belongs to any of the existing platform; but it is in a motion sensing controller (a flight/steering wheel controller) with a AV output. Judging from the outside of the box you probably laughing at it, which just a kid stuff; however when you plug in your TV set..hmm, not that bad.

Ok I know by just watching at the video that you can't be so sure about the graphic quality, but the animation and the frame rate are seemed not bad, the motion sensing control seems responsive too.

District 9 - Trailer

A Peter Jackson's new movie - DISTRICT 9 coming soon on August 14. Here's the story about:

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare - they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable - he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

COD: World at War - Map Pack 3 Coming in August (PC, PS3, Xbox360)

Seems the DLC map pack for COD: World at War will keep on coming and never rest until Modern Warfare 2.

Activision revealed that the two previous Call of Duty: World at War Map Packs had sold over 4 million units combined. It also announced that the third map pack for its top-selling World War II shooter will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in August. Like the first two multiplayer add-ons, Map Pack 3 will offer three new competitive arenas as well as one zombie-themed match. Activision did not reveal pricing information, though the previous two packs are available for $10 (MSP 800).

In the upcoming map Revolution, soldiers fight in Russia's cold city streets and factories amid treacherous sniper fire. The map Battery features a fortified island encircled by antiship mines and cannons. The urban-themed Breach puts players in the dismal byways of Berlin, near the historic Brandenburg Gate. Der Riese (Zombie Factory) will feature a Nazi research facility, a machine that can upgrade weapons, and 10 new achievements or trophies.

Resident of Evil 5 dated on PC

Photobucket

The PC version of Resident Evil 5 will arrive in North American stores September 15. Europeans will have to wait until September 18. So any add on for this PC port? In some way, yes it is. Besides the full port from the console version, good performance, flexible control on the PC (check the Gamespot hands on).

The PC version will also ship with exclusive content in the form of four brand new clothing outfits for both characters; even-harder difficulty level of the game's Mercenaries mode that will triple the number of enemies in each map; and the cool part is... it supports the Nvidia's GeForce stereoscopic 3D Vision glasses, which requires you to have a monitor capable of running at at least a 120Hz refresh rate.

However, Capcom didn't mention about the Versus Mode DLC; hopefully it will be included. RE5 will require a machine running DirectX 10 natively, so you'll most likely need a Vista or Windows 7 box to play; this is not cool.

Japan's PSN Offering Classic Games

Photobucket

The Japanese PSN store offiers a huge selection of old PlayStation games, especially compared to the paltry selection on the American store. Now, it's getting old games that weren't even on the PlayStation, in what appears to be a tentative step toward a Sony Virtual Console.

Sony announced that four PC Engine (Turbografx-16) games will be available on the Store today: Bomberman '94, New Adventure Island, Sengoku Mahjong, and Devil's Crush, each for 600 yen, roughly the same price these games command on the Wii's Virtual Console.

The PC Engine Game Archives will be playable on PSP and PS3, which means we'll be able to take Devil's Crush on the go for the first time since the TurboExpress -- thus elevating the PSP to the best system since the TurboExpress.

If you fancy about old classic games and you are not staying in Japan, get yourself a Japanese PSN account.

Dante's Inferno Development Diary (PS3, Xbox360)

Dante's Inferno is probably (or it is) the answer to God of War, but this is a much more darker setting...a lot more. These videos are showing the game environment setting based on the 9 Circles of Hell and the developer will give away more details about the game and their development progress.

From the video game play looks cool, hack and slash. But I believe there will be more game play footage soon, then we'll see.

The look and feel of HELL really disturbing...dark and grayish, red-hot lava, weird and disturbing statues...etc. The creature designs are also very...DISTURBING (gonna use this word a lot in this writing), it is even more hardcore than God of War which most creatures are mythical beast.

Well, overall from the look of it, it does impress me in the first place (the story setting mainly), looking forward to more footage and features.

Dragon Nest Online (PC)

dragonnest

A 3rd person online action RPG developed by EYEDENTITY GAMES in Korea. I found this game in the middle of no way when surfing game sites, personally I'm not so into MMORPG; but when watching the gameplay video...well...it looks cool.

The character design is ...cutie-deformed, the game environment also very stylized; the cool part is the solid fast pace action, online hack and slash. There are only a hand full of classes, but they are all nice, and varied with different gameplay styles.

DRAGON NEST
Genre: ACTION RPG
Platform: PC Online
Publisher: Nexon (Korea, North America), Shanda (China), NHN (Japan)

SCEJ: Digital Comic Book Downloads Hitting PSP Store In Japan

PSN

Sony-sponsored a survey that gauged how interested PSP owners would be in a digital comic book download service.

Sony was evidently pleased with the feedback it received, as a digital comic book store is slated to hit the PSP store later this year, SCEJ announced. Currently this service is only confirmed for Japan, I do wish it will be applied in other regions as well.

The content will be sold digitally over the PlayStation Store and will be compatible with all PSP models.

Chinese WOW has been offline for a month

wow

Chinese online gamers have been without World of Warcraft for a month now, thanks to a problematic handover to a new operator in the region.

Servers closed on June 7th and the game was due to be relaunched by the end of the month, but NetEase, the company selected by Blizzard to take over from previous operator The9, has said that factors beyond its control have indefinitely delayed the launch.

"We have met with some factors which are out of our control, the servers reopening will be delayed," NetEase posted on its WOW website last week, according to Reuters. "As of now, we don't have a specific reopening timeframe."

Yahoo reports that Chinese WOW players have been flooding onto Taiwanese servers, while rival game operators have stepped up their advertising budgets to tempt idle players onto their games.

NetEase is paying over USD 300 million over three years to operate WOW in China, says Edge Online. Although the WOW player-base in Asia is said to be huge - up to half the 11.5 million players the game has worldwide - it's less profitable there than in other regions, accounting for only 10 per cent of revenues, analysts reckon.

Nevertheless, a month of no service in the world's biggest market for online gaming has to stem the flow of cash into Activision Blizzard's coffers somewhat.

Although it's successful in China, WOW has had a rough time there recently, with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion still unreleased in the country after getting tangled up in government red tape.

Capcom Brings High Tech Facial Animation to Sengoku Basara 3

Photobucket

Capcom announced today that it has partnered with with Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) to bring a new form of 3D facial animation technology to the just announced Sengoku Basara 3.

The Kyoto-based ATR has developed AniFace, a tool that allows content makers to create lip synchronized facial animation using recorded voice data and dialogue information. With this tool, creators can implement large amounts of voice data in less time than was previously required. The tool supports both English and Japanese.

Capcom began evaluating the system in May 2008. Sengoku Basara 3 will be the first time the tool is being used in the video game world.

Capcom seems applying latest technology to their games, talking about facial expression, Street Fighter IV had it applied to all characters, it was a very good start.

PSP Go processor More Than 40% Faster Than Original

PSPGo

According to recently filed FCC documents, the PSP Go (PSP-N1001) might be faster than we originally expected. While the official specs stated the clock frequency of the processor at 333MHz, FCC documents have pegged this tiny UMD-less, flash based dynamo to actually max out at 480MHz.

While the PSP Go will most likely be locked in at 333Mhz, it is possible that the software within will allow scaling for intensive applications or the full speed will be enabled in a future firmware update. Many of you may remember that the original PSP was always locked to 222MHz, but since firmware 3.50, developers had access to the full 333MHz. The difference in increased processor speed was night and day for many gamers, who noticed better lighting, more particles, and a few minor differences.

UPDATE:

PSP Go's 480MHz state refers to USB, not CPU; Sony Computer Entertainment has stated that those extra megahertz are being used to clock the USB transfer and not the CPU.

Ikaruga -- One Of The Hardest Shooter Game (DC, GCN, XBLA)

Photobucket

Ikaruga is one of the greatest vertical shooters ever made. It's also one of the most unforgiving bullet hell shooters ever made. If you don't know what bullet hell is, it's when the enemies shoot so many bullets at you that the screen is literally filled with projectiles. The result is you in a fetal position on the floor.

Beginner's Guide to Dragon Quest IX (NDS)

Nintendo posted a beginner's guide to the Everyone's Nintendo Channel on Wii today. Some helpful friend was kind enough to upload it to YouTube.

The video shows the basics of adventuring, from character creation to battle, right down to new DQIX features like co-op multiplayer. It's offensively basic stuff -- the announcer even explains how you select commands form a menu to attack enemies. But if DQIX footage is what you want, do not hesitate to stream below.

PS2 Emulation on PS3

Photobucket

Sony is probably planning or considering to re-introduce PS2 emulation on PS3...again, with the recent patents a method by which the PS3’s Cell processor could emulate the PS2’s Emotion Engine, without the need for special hardware.

Initially during the console launched, Sony included both CPU (Emotion Engine) and GPU (Graphics Synthesiser) in the PS3; but it turned out that both chips were taken out in today PS3 console, due to several reasons (the cost mainly).

I do wish Sony will able to bring back this feature to PS3; through PSN, Sony can re-distribute PS2 classic titles digitally and playable on PS3.

SO PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!

“Silverlight-powered media on Xbox will have the same appearance as ads seen on a web browser,” according to the report, and will presumably feature on the Xbox Live dashboard.

18M Tetsujin 28 Statue Nears Completion

Photobucket

The full scale Gundam built and showcased in Tokyo; now another full scale Japanese robot-icon -- Tetsujin 28 going to rise as well.

Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s Tetsujin 28-gō (鉄人28号, Iron Man #28, usually known in the US as Gigantor) is set to be permanently immortalised in Kobe as a 18m life size statue, and is nearing completion.

The statue, which will have it’s final base at Wakamatsu Park, was planned to be finished in August, but has now been pushed back to the end of September, with its official unveiling is due in October.

Unlike Bandai’s by now exceedingly famous RX-78 life size Gundam at Odaiba, the Tetsujin 28 is intended to commemorate the revitalision of Kobe, after the 1995 earthquake that nearly destroyed the city. As such, the statue’s main construction site is at Nagata Ward, the place hardest hit by the quake, though now fully recovered.

Costing some 135 million yen, it was also chosen as a memorial to Yokoyama-sensei himself, as a noted mangaka and one of Kobe’s most famous sons.

Partly funded by the city (who paid around 45M yen), the rest was garnered from sales of “Tetsujin Curry”. Unlike the Bandai’s Gundam, this statue cannot be moved, and so it will be a permanent feature.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger -- IGN Review (PS3, Xbox360)

Normally when comes to 2D fighting genre, I will rather prefer those strong titles like Street Fighter, Dark Stalker, Capcom VS series or KOF; and I'm not easily moved. Ever since the rise of Guilty Gear by Arc System Works, bringing the good old 2D cell fighter to all new level; vibrant colors, excellent graphic and character design, satisfying battle system; I couldn't find any reason to avoid it.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger again bring to us a brand new vibrant fighting experience in this HD era. Strong character design, a interesting story mode instead of just a bland fight, impressively designed game interface, and ... I love that Cat character - TAOKAKA.

Compare from those main stream hardcore fighting(like SF4), I treat this one as a casual fighter with a lot of eye candy. And it is a MUST HAVE if you love fighting games.
